Balandra Beach is out of this world
How would you describe your perfect beach? Pristine white sand? Crystal clear water glistening from the beaming sun? Away from the crowds of tourists?
Well, if that is how you’d describe your perfect beach, then you need to get yourself to Balandra Beach a few miles outside of La Paz, Mexico. Saying this beach is stunning is an understatement! I will happily go as far as saying this is one of the most beautiful beaches you will find anywhere in the world.
My top tip when you’re at Balandra Beach would be to climb one of the surrounding hills. The views over Balandra Bay are unbeatable!
The food, you’ll never forget the food
What could be better than after a day relaxing on a beautiful beach, then treating yourself and tucking into fresh ceviche. Not much in my opinion… That’s just a taste of what you’ll get to experience in Mexico.
How could anyone talk about Mexico without mentioning the food, it’s impossible. The variety of dishes across the country will have you tucking into something new and delightful everyday. The taste of food will be ingrained in your memory forever, trust me.
Forget about Tex-Mex and get some traditional Mexican food down you!
If I were to pick out one place in Mexico which is a must-visit purely down to the food, it would be Ensenada in Baja California. Think soft flour homemade tacos topped with crispy deep fried prawns, shredded crunchy lettuce, zesty lime juice and all topped off with a drizzling of sour cream and hot chilli sauce. Sounds delicious, doesn’t it?
It’s huge, the variety here is unbelievable
Mexico is a country made up of 758,000 square miles, so it’s no surprise really that there is a huge amount of variety in Mexico.
There’s so many different experiences you can have around this country. Take the north for example, you’ve got Baja California which is home to fresh seafood and pristine beaches. Then towards the west over the Gulf of California you have the barren Copper Canyon offering picturesque views for miles.
Further south you have the populous capital city, Mexico City, then in the south there’s the ever-popular Yucatan Peninsula, home to tourist favourites, beautiful small towns and small and charming islands.
That’s just a taster of what you’re in for. You could spend months and months exploring this country and find a new experience each and every day.

The buildings are colourful, you’ll love it
The colours in the colonial towns and cities of Mexico will leave you mesmerised. Guanajuato is a city which deserves a special mention. You may have heard of this university city before. It’s often touted as the most beautiful city in Mexico. Once you visit, it’s easy to see why.
If you like the look of Guanajuato, you’ll love Valladolid and Campeche on the Yucatan Peninsula. Their buildings are spruced up with pastel colours from every colour of the rainbow. If there’s one thing Mexicans do well… It’s food. After that, it’s sprucing up their houses with a bit of colour. You’ll be hard pushed to find a boring looking colonial town in this country!
Tequila, tequila and more tequila
Drinking tequila in the town of tequila, what could be more of a Mexican experience than that?!
Take a short bus ride from the city of Guadalajara to the humble town of Tequila to see how they turn the simple agave plant into one of the world’s most favourite drinks. Take a tour of one of the tequila factories and you will get a look-in on the process of distilling the agave and even a taster session.
No trip to Tequila would be complete without a visit to one of the world’s top 20 bars. La Capilla is a rustic bar which has been attracting people for decades with their famous drink – Batanga. This effortless yet tasty drink is made by coating the rim of a tall glass with lime juice and dipping it in rock salt. The glass is then filled with ice, lime juice, Coca Cola and a healthy dose of tequila.
Have you been persuaded to make Mexico one of your next travel destinations? Well, if this hasn’t persuaded you, I don’t know what will. Trust me when I say, Mexico is without a doubt one of the most enjoyable and diverse countries you’ll have the pleasure to visit.
