It’s not unusual in Mumbai when the most ordinary organizations are found in splendid buildings, some of which are good enough for a king’s palace, no less. General Post Office (GPO) in Mumbai is just another building like that. and if one has a slightest interest in architecture, it’s definitely worth seeing – it’s in close proximity to the Victoria Terminus, so you can easily walk there.
Once again, the structure is a paradigm of Indo-Saracenic architectural Style, just like many other buildings of the colonial era in Colaba. It was designed by English architect John Begg and built in the beginning of the 20th century of black basalt and yellow stone. I have photos only of the exterior of the building – the pictures of the inside seem to be lost. I guess it’s a hint – I should visit the place again. Anyone wants a postcard?:)
